Blackhawks decide not to introduce new head coach Jeremy Colliton during pregame

The Blackhawks did not introduce their new head coach Jeremy Colliton after starting lineups for Thursday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes at the United Center.

Colliton made his NHL coaching debut in the game after taking over for Joel Quenneville, who was fired Tuesday after 11 seasons with the team. Assistant coaches Kevin Dineen and Ulf Samuelsson were also let go by the team.

Quenneville won the Stanley Cup three times with Chicago and is the second-winngest coach in franchise and league history.

The Blackhawks likely decided not to do the introduction to avoid the possibility of fans booing their new bench boss.

Colliton, 33, becomes the youngest head coach in the NHL. He led the IceHogs to a 40-28-4-4 mark in his first AHL season in 2017-18. Rockford reached the Western Conference Final in the Calder Cup playoffs for the first time in team history. The IceHogs swept the Chicago Wolves and Manitoba Moose before falling 4-2 to the Texas Stars.
